What Remains Beautiful

Most fiction is boring or terrified of itself. Usually both. Nothing dangerous survives that much caution. And nothing interesting does either.

But we're tired of literature with its condom on.

The Anxious Nihilist Prize for Fiction is looking to get fucked raw and isn't looking for redemption arcs or trauma Olympics. Reality has enough bad writing already.

The winner receives $100, publication in A Thin Slice of Anxiety, and the greatest honor contemporary literature can realistically offer: eternal obscurity. (If your friends and family actually read it, consider that a bonus.)

Now For The Fine Print Nobody Reads:

  • Fiction only.
  • 1,000 words maximum.
  • Send it as a .doc or .docx file.
  • One submission per writer.
  • Email it to theanxiousnihilist@gmail.com
  • Deadline: September 30th. After that, the gates close.

One more thing:

As per our usual policy, if you don’t hear from us, it’s a no. No rejection letters. No feedback. No explanations. Don’t email asking for an update. If we want it, you’ll know. If we don’t… that’s literature.

See you in the fucking slush pile.
