Poetry: Recognition Does Not Immediately Flash by Ben Nardolilli

Recognition Does Not Immediately Flash

She vomits in the bathroom, sick
upon the sea green tiles

and I am bleeding in the bedroom,
making the hardwood darker

I tell her to look on the bright side,
and if that doesn’t work

I point with crimson fingers
at the paintings, the small figurines

we may be dying, and quickly too,
but at least we are surrounded by art
